Importance of Establishing Radiation Protection Culture (RPC) in Medical and Industrial Radiation Facilities

The increasing use of radiation in medicine for diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional purposes, and its utilization in many industrial applications have raised serious health and safety concerns for the  patients, the occupationally exposed workers, and the members of the public. Thus, there is a need to establish a strong Radiation Protection Culture  in every medical and industrial radiation facility.

The term radiation protection culture  describes “the combination of attitudes, beliefs, practices and rules among the professionals and stakeholders with regard to radiation protection…The establishment of a radiation protection culture enables the reduction of the radiation dose, enhances radiation risk awareness, minimizes unsafe practices, and improves the quality of a radiation protection program.” (A.Ploussi et al)

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the concept of Radiation Protection Culture in the Medical and Industrial Settings
  • Identify the salient features of Radiation Protection Culture
  • Appreciate the value of Radiation Protection Culture in radiation health and safety
