Panel 1

Durability within the context of Circular Economy -

Is price an indicator for durable clothing?

Stephanie Campbell
Fashion at Hubbub
Vicki Swain
Primark Cares
Dr. Mark Summer
University of Leeds
In this session we hear from Dr. Mark Sumner at The School of Design, University of Leeds, Vicki Swain at Primark and Stephanie Campbell from Hubbub on the project that was released earlier this year around clothing durability.

One of the largest studies on clothing durability, it aimed to understand the relationship between price versus durability, as well as citizens perceptions and expectations from their clothing relative to price.

Stephanie Campbell from Hubbub  will discuss from an environmental stand point on why durability matters, Dr Mark Sumner will guide us through the approach, methodology and some key findings. Vicki Swain will talk about what this means for both consumers as well brands.

This is an interactive session with an opportunity to ask questions.

Panel 2

Microfibre Fragmentation Testing and Learnings - TMC and TUV Rheinland

Joanne Brown
Local Field Manager
Laboratory Manager
TÜV Rheinland
Elliot Bland
Researcher
The Microfibre Consortium
We will discuss with Joanne Brown, our Soflines Technical Manager for the UK who has more than 30 years‘ experience in the apparel and textile service industry in quality assurance, testing, inspection and audit. Joanne will be joined by Elliot Bland from The Microfibre Consortium to discuss how The TMC Test Method has been developed, trials in implementing the measurement of fibre fragmentation release, reporting and current findings as well as industry alignment on the quantification of fibre fragmentation from textiles.

Microfibre shedding is a problem of environmental concern, affecting not only wildlife and the water, but also soil and air quality. Fragments have been found in humans, consumed through eating, drinking and breathing. Mircofibres have a persistent nature and their impact is not yet fully known.

At TUV Rheinland, alongside with The Microfibre Consortium, we have developed and implemented microfibre fragmentation quantification in order to better understand the impact certain fibres and fabrics have and to allow us to change the way we produce and consume in the future

Panel 3

How technology can support your supply chain on their chemical management requirements. Digital Chemical Management platform The BHive®

Lars Doemer
Founder of The Bhive®
Lars Doemer has more than 20 years’ international experience in the fashion and textile industry, working with different brands, retailers and organizations in Hong Kong and Europe. He was involved in several cleaner production programs and the implementation of chemical roadmaps for different international brands and retailers. As a co-founder of GoBlu, he developed The BHive®, one of the leading digital chemical management platforms in the industry.

In this panel we will discuss how digitalization and transparency enable future-proof chemical management that allows brands to meet the new legal requirements and provide customers with chemical data on a product level. In addition, the availability of easily retrievable and understandable digital data has the potential to enable factories to make informed and sustainable decisions on their own.

We will focus on:

  • How future legal requirements drive the demand for chemical management.
  • That digitization and transparency are accelerators for meeting legal requirements as a brand.
  • How easily retrievable and understandable digital data can enable factories to make informed and sustainable decisions on their own.
