New Service:

Cybersecurity Assurance Program
Today, consumer and industrial products need to have strong cyber defenses in place in order to secure and protect the sensitive information they often collect. Through the use of information assessment and cybersecurity services, manufacturers can not only ensure the safety and security of the product, but also demonstrate their commitment to safety to their customers.

For original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), having the ability to identify and fix cyber vulnerabilities before they are found by adversarial or end customers helps add tremendous value to their products. With TUV Rheinland Cybersecurity Assurance, an OEM can assure the end customer, integrators, and its value-added resellers (VAR) that they have taken responsible steps to ensure its consumer or industrial product is cyber secure.

Armed with a statement of Cybersecurity Assurance from TUV Rheinland, you provide transparency to your customers that your products are safe and secure, helping to protect your brand value.

Criminal hackers can exploit vulnerabilities in your network, your IT systems, applications or mobile devices to penetrate your organization and manipulate or steal sensitive business information and customer data. The fact of the matter is, no organization is "too small" or "too insignificant" for an attack, and many organizations are already compromised without even knowing it. Do you know the weak points in your systems and applications that attackers could exploit? Internal and external penetration tests and IT security analysis from TUV Rheinland can provide those answers!

Our Penetration Testing & IT Security Analysis can optimize your company's IT security and protect your business from network attacks in just a few steps. We examine your IT infrastructure from a hacker's perspective, simulating a realistic cyberattack to identify vulnerabilities in your IT before attackers can exploit them. Our experts then recommend suitable countermeasures and assist you in their implementation so you can protect your systems, sensitive business information, and customer data from harmful unauthorized access and industrial espionage.

New Testing Capability:

Wi-Fi 6E Certification Testing

In April of 2020, the U.S. FCC adopted a proposal that opened the 6GHz band for unlicensed Wi-Fi use, and in turn, unleashed 1,200 MHz of additional bandwidth for next-gen Wi-Fi 6E devices. With its super-wide 160 MHz channels, uncongested bandwidth, and the ability to deliver multi-gigabit, low-latency Wi-Fi, the 6GHz spectrum has become very attractive to product developers and device manufacturers.

With Wi-Fi operation in the 6GHz band increasing daily, certification for Wi-Fi 6E has been introduced as an extension of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™ program to deliver interoperability for devices operating in the 6GHz spectrum. TUV Rheinland of North America is now authorized to provide Wi-Fi 6E certification testing and aims to use the new capability to bring the immense benefits of the 6GHz spectrum to consumers, device manufacturers, and service providers around the world.

New Testing Capability:

3m Automated Test Chamber for EMC/EMI Testing

In October 2020, our IoT/Wireless Excellence Center in Fremont, CA has expanded its EMC/EMI testing capacity with the installation of a new, state-of-the-art 3m Semi-Anechoic chamber. This announcement follows the August release discussing the addition of Wireless Coexistence testing capability in Pleasanton, CA, the July release about the expansion of TUV Rheinland’s Excellence Center Program, and the implementation of its “Under One Roof” service strategy.

The IoT/Wireless Excellence Center is now able to automate EMC/EMI testing in the new 3m Semi-Anechoic chamber. The state-of-the-art automation digitizes test results and reduces testing times. It’s capability allows for clients to review results in nearly real-time, even when off-site. In addition, the facility has capabilities to test wireless protocols, perform SAR/OTA testing, and other regulatory services. The addition of the 3m chamber improves efficiencies and will support the Bay area industries by providing access to timely testing and comprehensive services.

Understanding Compliance Requirements for Industrial Robots
Industrial robots are perhaps the most common type of robot, due to their long history of use and relative simplicity compared to other robot types.

Because of their long presence in the workplace, industrial robots have well-defined safety standards and testing protocol. However, advances in technology mean that they now have other features beyond the basic definitions, so it is important that these robots comply with any additional end-product standards for electrical, mechanical and functional safety. This is why it is important for manufacturers to understand the compliance requirements for industrial robots.

Deadline approaching for OHSAS 18001 – have you transitioned to ISO 45001 yet?
ISO 45001
The new ISO 45001 standard is set to supersede OHSAS 18001, the previous standard for occupational health & safety.

Companies were granted a three-year transition period starting from the standard‘s publication date of March 12, 2018 until the end of March 2021. However, considering the challenges many companies faced in the last year, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) announced that OHSAS 18001 certification could be extended to September 30, 2021 for organizations that need more time to transition.

Do you have questions about the new standard, or how it can benefit your organization? Learn more in our recent blog post, or contact us now.

EU MDR & the Impact on Chemical Substances in Medical Products

On May 26, 2021, the new Medical Device Regulation 2017/745 EU MDR entered into effect, replacing the two previous directives – the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC (MDD) and the Active Implantable Medical Device Directive 90/385/EEC (AIMDD).

The new EU MDR explains the need for a risk assessment to identify if any of the CMR 1A and 1B substances, listed in the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 - Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP), are in your materials that are considered “invasive.” This means that devices shall be designed and manufactured in a way that aims to reduce the possible risks posed by substances or particles such as wear debris, degradation products, and processing residues that may be released from the device.

This whitepaper highlights the impact the new MDR will have on chemical substances in medical products, important changes and new requirements, proposed solutions, and long-term considerations.
