We Test and Certify the Quality of Your Sustainable Furniture.
Level Certification – Access the European and US Market
The level certifications are based on sustainability standards for indoor office and facility furniture and thus cover the requirements for sustainable and environmentally friendly procurement. In the past years they turned to be the most important instruments to position yourself successfully for important tendering.
FEMB level® enables you to show with a single certification that your office, school and contract furniture meet every aspect of sustainability. TÜV Rheinland was the first Notified Body to certify furniture with the European FEMB level® in 2018. After successful certification, we register your certification in our online database Certipedia, on which your certification can be verified at any time: View an example!
With our support you are always informed about the latest changes. Following the 5-year-cycle set by Dakks, the standard is currently under revision to include the latest product developments and technical innovations. We are involved in the technical committee and accompany the revision (co-design). Read more about the FEMB level® certification in our German-language case study: “Die FEMB level® Zertifizierung für Nachhaltigkeit.
BIFMA level® is a voluntary third-party certification program based on the ANSI/BIFMA e3 furniture sustainability standard. It sets performance criteria that address environmental and social aspects throughout the supply chain. Thus increasing the share of sustainable furniture in the market measurably.

TÜV Rheinland is your experienced partner to prove conformance according to the ANSI/BIFMA e3 furniture sustainability standard and enable level® certification. Learn more about the process and your benefits on our website about BIFMA level® Certification.
More Services According to Sustainability and the European Green Deal
Chemical Testing/VOC
To avoid significant adverse health effects on humans, the measurement of volatile organic compounds emission from furniture is essential. TÜV Rheinland offers comprehensive testing services such as VOC and formaldehyde emission testing for all furniture.
Life Cycle Assessment/PCF
Sustainability is not only about the final product, but also on its whole life cycle from design and sourcing up to disposal and covers social aspects as well. We are able to offer a one-stop-shop-solution to demonstrate your sustainability along the entire value chain.
Recyclates (Circular Economy)
Customer demands for sustainable products and less plastic use are stipulated in the European Green Deal. Gain a competitive advantage and tax benefits by having your recycling quota certified. Another pillar of circular economy is sustainable design.
Green Product Mark
This voluntary environmental certification scheme aims to communicate verifiable and accurate information on environmental aspects of products. With the mark you give consumers and retailers a clear guideline for environmentally preferable products.

Did you know, that we are experts for electrified furniture?
For years, we have been enhancing our services to meet the emerging trend of electrification, which significantly impacts office furniture, including height-adjustable desks and furniture with integrated power strips. A wide range of regulations presents challenges for manufacturers in the international furniture market.
The office furniture standard EN 60335-2-116 is currently still in draft form, but will ultimately be the applicable test basis of the future for furniture with electrification, always in conjunction with EN 17684 (electrically-driven mechanical safety requirements). In our whitepaper you find an overview of the specifications for “Electrified Furniture”.
