Read in our best practice how Huawei Technologies, a leading manufacturer of electronic components, had its greenhouse gas emissions verified by TÜV Rheinland. The verified data was included in the first greenhouse gas emissions report published in 2024 and was used to prepare for setting climate targets according to the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative).
Climate protection actions are a top priority for companies operating in the European and German markets. As a technology and solution provider, Huawei has set out ambitious targets for decarbonization. This effort requires all European subsidiaries to define science-based climate targets (SBT) in accordance with the SBTi. Huawei Technologies Germany is therefore committed to measuring and managing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through a structured and transparent quantification process. Using advanced data analytics and industry-recognized methodologies, the company can accurately track its carbon footprint across various operational activities. This quantification enables Huawei to identify key emission sources, implement effective reduction strategies, and continuously improve its sustainability performance. For SBT, however, it is not enough to simply collect this data. The information must also be verified and presented according to the requirements of certain standards, such as ISO 14064 and the GHG Protocol.
