ISO 26262 and Autonomous Vehicles: Challenges in Design and Homologation
Autonomous driving-technologies and intelligent driver assistance systems will change the car industry drastically in the next few decades. Driver assistance systems are already very common, but achieving the full extent of automation will be the entrance to a new era.
Cars will have to meet stringent safety demands according to the differing extent of automation. Regional regulatory requirements - for instance from Directive 2007/46/EC for the European market - have to be considered. Furthermore, functional safety requirements defined in the international standard ISO 26262 are relevant for development and production in the automotive industry. Violating these requirements might cause a non-approval at vehicle registration for specific international markets.
This half-day, virtual conference will bring together automotive engineers and designers working on autonomous vehicle functions with type-approval and certification professionals from TÜV Rheinland. Presentations will focus on the current design challenges for autonomous vehicles as well as the state of standardization and regulation.
